Week 2 Flag Football Rules to Know

Every week our officials look to make our gameplay more exciting without over penalizing teams.  Here are a few points they gave warnings for last week that may be real penalties this week.

JUNIOR DIV.  Week 2 Emphasis

  • The QB can run the ball only if he/she has first handed the ball off behind the line of scrimmage and then taken a “direct” handoff back from another player before the ball has ever crossed the line of scrimmage. NO DIRECT QB RUSHES, MAY RESULT IN A 5 YARD OFFENSIVE PENALTY.

  • Defensive players cannot pass the line of scrimmage, until the ball is handed off. MAKE SURE BALL IS BEING HANDED OFF AND NOT A FAKE, ILLIGAL RUSHING MAY RESULT IN A 5 YARD DEFENSIVE PENALTY.

  • The flag belts (not the flags themselves) must be secured to ensure they do not hang appearing to be a flag. If the belt is hanging, flag guarding may be called. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR BALL CARRIERS, IMPROPER EQUIPMENT MAY RESULT IN A 5 YARD PENALTY.

  • NO INTENTIONAL CONTACT of any kind is permitted and may also result in an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, and/or player ejection.THIS INCLUDES “BLOCKING” or “SCREENING” AND MAY RESULT IN AN ILLIGAL CONTACT PENALTY OF 5 YARDS.

    SENIOR DIV.  Week 2 Emphasis

  • You may rush the quarterback in the SENIOR Division. The rush marker will be designated by the referee seven yards from the line of scrimmage. Any number of players may rush the quarterback as long as they are behind the rush marker when the ball is snapped. ILLEGALLY RUSHING MAY RESULT IN A 5 YARD OFFENSIVE PENALTY.QB IS ALLOWED TO SCRAMBLE/RUN THE BALL ONCE ANY RUSHER CROSSES THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE.
